I've had a tightness near my heart chakra for a few days. It felt like there was a clenched fist in the center of my chest. I wasn't sure exactly why it was present, but figured a fear had come up.
I sat down to meditate this evening. While I was sitting, I tried breathing into my heart space and just feeling the tightness. Not trying to loosen it (which is what I usually do), but just feeling it and letting it be. All of a sudden, I felt a strange sensation spread throughout my torso - it felt like something was dissolving or melting. It was a very neat sensation. When it stopped, the tightness was gone!

i have been a believer, yet only a dabbler in alternative medicine for a long time. but i'd not heard of reiki until your blog. part of me holds back in only using holistic ways. i had the heaviness in my chest, like a fist, as you say, for weeks and it would not go away. i had a heart scan done and had 80% blockage in one of the main arteries of the heart. they put a stent in my heart. i went into cardiac arrest in the recovery room. they did revive me with their crash cart, but i wonder now if i'd just used calm, non-invasive, natural healing methods, as you do... first i wouldn't have "died" for a few seconds, then i wouldn't be walking around with this piece of metal in my heart. i think you're onto something with the fear aspect. very interesting ideas. THANKS. i hope others comment of their experiences with chakras and reiki too. i'm fascinated. keep going, E. you have a marvelous balance and inner strength that is helpful.

Hi, Tammy. While I know there are those who are "all alternative, all the time", I am not one of them. {Ok, I'm pretty close, LOL, but then I've never had a major health issue.} If I felt that heaviness in my chest and thought it was due to a physical heart problem, I would be in my doctor's office in a heartbeat. ;) For me, I think there is a time and a place for everything.
The thing about reiki is that it always works for your highest and greatest good. :) In your case, perhaps identifying the blockage and having the surgery was for your highest and greatest good. The end result in that particular circumstance might have been the same regardless.
You know what you should read - Dr. Christine Northrup's books. I am reading them now and just LOVE them. She talks about choosing traditional vs alternative and when or why you might choose each one. She also talks about what might cause various issues to manifest themselves - which I find very interesting. I am hoping that by working through all my emotional baggage, and learning to deal with things as they come up, I will be healthier in the long run. We shall see ..

I really need to work on meditating! If I can sit still for long enough, it sounds like it can do wonders!

tammy: I sure am not, LOL.
julie: try sitting for just 5 minutes a day .. and when it gets easier, increase it. That helped me ..
