I just had an interesting experience while giving my puppy Atlas a reiki treatment, so I thought I'd share.
I picked Atlas up from boarding yesterday. Apparently he ran and ran and ran and had lots of fun. I noticed that he was walking funny this evening, and his hindquarters were sensitive to the touch, so I figured that he was probably a bit sore from all the activity and could use a bit of reiki.
He settled in and was enjoying it .. but about an hour into the session, he started trembling and quietly crying. [I was giving him a mental and physical treatment.] He did this a few times. I could see images in my head .. but they were so fuzzy that I didn't really know what they were. The next thing I knew, I was sobbing. No idea why. After a while, he lifted his head up and looked over at me. He was done - and fine. I cried for a bit longer until my tears were gone, and then I was fine too.
Since it wasn't my treatment, I fear the epiphany will never come. But I'm glad whatever he was holding in is now gone.

maybe... because we live in such a finite and literal world most of the time... but, maybe they were cries of happiness and relief for you both. everytime we leave them they don't know if we're returning. i think that's why they're so joyous, even if we've been gone for a few minutes. and maybe... sometimes my heart has been so full of love that the sobs just come unexpectedly. the mystery of love and life and beloved dogs, that aren't dogs at all... i don't know what they are, but they're more than dogs...

what a gift of connection and presence to the healing available in the moment for you both. There's such beauty awaiting us in the unknown, and I honor your awareness of something real that took place between you and Atlas, and like Tammy said, there really is no need to define it.
I love when after a healing session it's hard to tell who was giving and who was receiving the treatment...
As humans it's so easy to believe that just because we're hanging onto something we need to hang onto it. With animals I find they are such great demonstrators of the freedom that comes from being willing to let things go!

you may be right! I know how happy I am to have him back at home again - and I know how happy he is to see me again. :)

that's one of the things I love about reiki. Giving it or sending it does as much good for me as for the recipient.
animals are such good teachers!

As Tammy said, I'm sure Atlas was just happy you were home and he was letting go of the fear that you weren't coming back. Even though they run and run and play and play and have fun with other dogs, they have to be wondering where mom is and when is she coming back. It's good that you can do reiki on Atlas and spend that time with him and that he allows you to do it! Very fascinating. Plus you got a two-fer - cool!

last nite one of those nites.. couldn't sleep but wasn't upset about it... found myself thinking about lots of different things... Atlas came to my mind. i remembered when i had to travel in my work and i boarded my little cocker, Sara, at my vet's kennel. they even called it a "pet spa." i asked to see it ahead of time and of course it was all concrete and very clean. while i was there, a "technician" (which was a highschool kid) was hosing down the stalls. i'd brought Sara's favorite blanket and toy and with teary eyes, left her there. Long story short... concrete is COLD, and quite porous. when it's wet, it's then cold and damp. not good to lie on even for a young dog, let alone one whose joints are a bit older.... i'm sure they're all run like that, for sanitary purposes... plus... i don't think dogs get stiff and sore from too much running, especially a born runner like Atlas, i'd sooner think he might get stiff and sore from 'not enough' exercise... just some thoughts at roughly 2 am this morning!!!

thanks for the thoughts, tammy! fortunately, this place is not like that - hence the reason it is the only place I will board him. :) they have blankets in their crates - and the dogs run and play with each other literally all day, outside or in the barn. That's why Atlas does well there .. he's never alone in a dog run or kennel and he gets to play all day. I just love it.

oh thank goodness! but knowing you what little time i have, i should have already realized the kind of place he'd have "vacationed in!" after my experience with Sara, i always arranged for her to stay with my brother, and i did the same for his Amy. so... tammy, quit trying to 'rationalize' something in reike that had all to do with Atlas and E's connecting, and nothing to do with old hard, cold concrete!! LOL
