I am kind of in a pickle here. I was clicking on a blog post to respond to comments and noticed that I use the word "I" quite a lot. It made me feel like I am writing a blog that is all about me. Which I sort of am, but I am only writing about me because I think it might be useful to you. I don't know what will be useful, or when it will be useful, or how it will be useful, but I believe that somehow, it will be useful to someone. To that end, it really isn't about me at all. (Well, I guess it still is, because it is about me wanting to share with the hope that it is useful. Argh.)
The pickle is that I don't know if that is clear and, if it's not, I am at a bit of a loss as to how to change it.
Don't really have an answer right now .. not even entirely sure why I am posting this .. but here it is.

All I can say is it IS all about you and that is what makes it so powerful. Thank you for that.

Elizabeth, I read the same post about the "I's" and had some of the exact same feelings and questions. I think you have hit upon it - you are writing about you, yes, honestly and from the heart, but you are not writing everything about you - just picking those things that you think might be interesting or helpful to others. You are putting it out there the best you can. Some may shrug their shoulders, some may read with cursory interest, but some (or even one) will resonate perfectly with what you said and feel a connection or gain an insight that they did not have before. We have to keep doing it so that these little gems can bounce back and forth between us and keep each other motivated and inspired. Keep right on keepin on!!!

Many of your posts here have really resonated with me. Sharing a part of you- being vulnerable and honest- it reaches others. Don't be too critical, it's your spiritual journey and sometimes there's no other word other than "I" that's fitting. I sort of feel like you're letting us read parts of your diary and it makes others feel... not so alone in their thoughts and journey. :)

This creative writing instructor worked within what I have found to be a powerful detachment process from the 'self important I', allowing a connection to the 'I' in all of us. Everyone who wished to share their written creative expressions was invited to do so in this supportive space but then had to sit quietly, resisting the urge to explain, justify, validate, or in other words try to control the meaning or to be understood. The listeners had the space to respond about their own experience to what 'The Narrator' shared touched in them or what they enjoyed about it. It was beautiful to watch the meaning transform and grow richer in the process, especially for the narrator.
This was a lesson from one 2-hour class I took a while back, that the instructor may never know reached me on a very deep level. My learning continues as I practice this every day.
I believe it's just important to honor and share who we are, and let go of the rest...
Your courage to do that touches my heart :)

@marilyn: awwwwww .. thanks. Appreciate the love.
@mella: oh, thank you for sharing this. Fascinating. This is sort of what I wanted to do, except it is awfully hard to resist those urges. But that is why I love stories so much .. a single story can look entirely different to every single person who encounters it.
@julie: yes to the not feeling so alone thing. That is one of the good things about the internet, I think. We can learn that we really aren't as alone in (something) as we think we are.
@patty: that's right! I read a post! I was trying to figure out what prompted this. The thought crossed my mind a while back, but I got sidetracked and didn't write a post about it ..
@pearl: thank you! By the way, you are inspiring me to practice more regularly - for which I am quite appreciative. :)
