I posted this a while ago on my photo blog, but I thought I would share it here as well, since it partly explains why I want to share reiki with others.
In one of the classes at the Be Present Retreat, Andrea led us through an exercise where we identified the values that are important to us at this point in our lives. The exercise was surprisingly more emotional than I realized it would be.
My values were:
- to be unapologetically myself
- curiosity
- to connect with others (to hear people's stories, to share my stories, to meet people where they are, and to remain in a state of acceptance and support)
- to see the light in everything (to see the beauty and light in everything and everyone, to share that with others, and to help others see the beauty and light in themselves)
It was really the first and last ones that touched me to the core. That night, I could not fall asleep. I laid in bed, tears rolling down my cheeks, as I thought about the last one. Seeing the light in everything is actually my soul's purpose, though I never had the right words to express it.
As I've mentioned before, at some point next year, I plan to shift to practicing reiki. While lying there, quietly crying, I realized that I now know that is really the right path for me. I've long believed that there is beauty and light in everyone, except I didn't really believe that there was beauty and light in me. Reiki was the thing I found that helped me begin to believe it was true of me too - which is one of the reasons why I want to share it with others.

Yes. This.
