I figured out why I was having such a hard time with the drinking water experiment.
The reason?
I have been trying really hard to practice being kind to myself. Since I don't like water, the whole forcing myself to drink water (because it did feel forced) felt very unkind. It felt more like a punishment than an experiment.
When I realized this, it made me happy. Since I had a hard time getting myself to do something that didn't seem kind, it seems to indicate that I am getting better at practicing self-kindness. Even better, I had no idea why I couldn't do it, so it was all happening at a less than conscious level.
Of course, I could be wrong. But for now, I'm going with it.
So hey! Even if I'm not practicing it perfectly, it's having an effect.

Hey, that is a truly fabulous noticing!
Yay for being kind to yourself. Seriously, yay.

I have read that the whole 8 glasses a day thing is a farce. If you aren't thirsty, you are okay. (Unless you are me. I am always thirsty!)

That's awesome! Kindness is an excellent thing to practice, and it's great that you've gotten it to the subconscious level. Congratulations! :)

That's a great insight, and a wonderfully powerful conclusion to draw from it.
As bodies still require water, though, have you put some thought into water-filled foods? Juices, non-caffeinated beverages, fruits, blah blah. I'm sure you know the drill.
This living in a body is not for sissies.

I like the being kind to yourself thing very much. I am working on finding ways to eat consciously and carefully and lose some weight that is making me very uncomfortable but without feeling punished, deprived or beating myself up. Hard stuff...
I love what Vivienne said ! Made me smile and feel so not alone too.
You are amazing and inspirng, you know. Thanks for that.

@Kim: I am working on the conscious eating thing too. Hard stuff for sure. You are not alone.
@Vivienne: Yeah, I do that. They do help, but it's odd .. I still notice a lack if there was no water. Maybe I'm not getting enough of the other stuff. Thank you for the idea!
@Steph: Thanks!
@Anne: Hey - maybe you could drink an extra few glasses for me! ;)
@Lucy: Awww .. thanks for the yays, sweetie!
