A few months ago, I decided to celebrate the new moon. (I got the idea while reading the book Slow Time by Waverly Fitzgerald.) I turned the computer off earlier than usual, lit candles, and practiced yin yoga by candle light. It was such a lovely practice that I decided to make it a monthly ritual. Sometimes, after yoga, I meditate for a while and then make a few wishes for that particular moon cycle.
Since I was celebrating the new moon, I decided to celebrate the full moon as well. On the night of the full moon, I usually light candles and dance. (The full moon's energy seems more active than contemplative.)
I must say that I am really enjoying these particular rituals. Somehow, the act of noticing and celebrating the moons seems to make me feel more connected to the earth, which is a beautiful thing. It is also a good reminder that everything has a cycle and that there is time for activity and time for rest.
Besides, the moon has always seemed like a very dear friend, so it seems appropriate to celebrate its comings and goings. (Whenever I see it - yes, even now - I find myself whispering "hello" and wanting to wave.)

That's such a sweet idea. I enjoy seeing the moon, too, especially all big and full.

@Scraps: I love that. I also love the half-moons because I picture someone nestled in the curve, fishing for stars (I feel like I saw this image somewhere once).

I love this. Thanks for re-stirring in me a longing to honor the moon cycles.

@Paulita: you're welcome! If you come up with any rituals that you'd like to share, I'd love to hear.
