whether he was near or far, turned toward it or away from it, no matter how quickly he moved his head or body, it seemed to always be there. watching. waiting. it was a most peculiar thing.
(though he did notice that if he came really really close, it backed away quickly.)

I think it is interesting the way a dog will curl up his lip. It is like he is trying to smile.

@jerry: i think in atlas' case, it gets caught. i was told his mother smiled in a very distinct manner; she pulled her lips back all the way and it looked rather not like a smile. ;) i always wished atlas would do it.

@helen: i think it works best if you have a very large wet nose that is headed directly for the lens. ;)
@margie: oh, how sweet. (well, except for the aching part.)
