i tend to skip "happy holiday" posts. partly because i am learning what holidays or events are meaningful to me, instead of just celebrating things because that's what i think i'm supposed to do or because that's what i've always done.
i did, however, mean to do an earth day post. i like to remember to do something nice to celebrate our home. clearly i forgot my plan when i was writing friday's post.
on the bright side, it occurred to me over the weekend that really, every day on my blog is earth day. because of the pictures, yes, but also because i care about love & kindness.
i absolutely believe that as it gets easier to extend more and more love & kindness to our own self, it gets easier to extend more and more love & kindness to others, and then it gets easier to extend more and more love & kindness to the planet we live on and to all its inhabitants.
love makes the world go round.

Elizabeth, you're so right! We are all connected and the love we show to each other spills over into love for all living things and the planet itself. And I'm with you on the holiday thing!

WONDERFULLY written, Elizabeth! I couldn't agree more... I'm a great believer in love makes the world go round. Love is my religion. And like you, every day is Earth Day to me. And you celebrate the Earth so well in your natural photography. Lots of love shining here! :o) Happy Days ((HUGS))

oh i relish these two photos .. contrasting shades and a bit of a before and after! I so agree with the earth day thoughts ..should be everyday in our minds and hearts

you my girl, simply give me permagrin. i love the way you think.
i so wish we were close so that we could take walks, drink
tea and have sessions together.
i know i have said that before, but it is because i mean it!

i also love the seemingly before and afterness of your picture. i live in a part of this country that doesn't value trees. if they're inconvenient they just bulldoze them down and burn them in great piles. i literally cry when i see that. it's like a holocaust of its own. as hot and dry as we are here you'd think it would be different. this year, earth day and the love for it and all living things has meant even more... i've been a vegetarian for the last 10 months and with the way the farm factories and slaughterhouses treat our animal friends i can finally say in my heart i have honored the words that we should love all living things. it makes a difference in you. it seems to soften the way you view everything. sorry...the old girl sounds preachy!!

Oh, Elizabeth, when I grow up, I want to be as wise as you. (and let's just pretend that I'm not older than you, okay?)

@sherron: when i grow up, i want to extend as much love to our furry friends as you. xo
@jennifer: *raises a glass*
@tammy: clearly it is a wonderful choice for you - i can hear it in your words!
@kelly: that would be seriously dreamy. maybe someday.
@elk: oh! now i see the before/after! thank you for noticing that and mentioning it.
@tracy: i like that. love and/or kindness are mine, though they seem the same at heart.
@patty: yes! and every day is definitely earth day on your blog too.

Well said.
I was hoping to do an Earth day post as well, and it never happened.
But I went out in nature to one of my favourite places and soaked up all the beauty with a grateful heart.

Love the photos - the lines, the colors, the passage of time :)
I'm still debating which are the "meaningful" holidays. There are traditions I enjoy (fun!) and these should be celebrated (by me and the dogs, if nothing else). (Dogs are always ready to party.)
