thought the first: are these not fantastic?! when i was in p-town, i found a shop with things that spun and danced and twirled. some of them were hanging outside where the wind could catch them. i was happier than happy and took photo after photo. they are some of my favorite images from my trip, never mind that you cannot tell where i took them.
thought the second: it turns out that the september collection is actually the september/october collection, so the prints will be available for another month. when i thought about finding a new set of images for october, it felt too rushed. i'll introduce the new collection in november (think mystery and magic) and it will be available for two months as well.
thought the third: you can now purchase digital images from retinal perspectives! this is a giant experiment and i am very curious to see what happens. my vision is that people will take my images and make them their own, that they will each use the images in their own way, and i can feel so much magic and possibility and creativity in this.
thought the fourth: here's a funny story for you. (apologies if i've already shared this.) i do not love the taste of coffee, but i love cafe culture. this means that i spend lots of time trying to order a coffee drink that does not taste like coffee. usually, i order a medium or large drink with whole milk and a single shot of decaf because it has the least coffee taste possible. one day, i even explained to the barista that if i didn't feel like i would be banned from the cafe or laughed at, what i'd really want to do is order a mocha (or similar) with no espresso at all. eventually, i had an epiphany. there is such a thing as a mocha with no espresso; it's called hot chocolate! i feel like i might be the only person in the world who took years to figure that one out.

i like coffee. but it's the tea culture and all its ambiance that i like... from english tea in the afternoon, so classic and elegant and somehow cozy... to the zen tea with its emphasis on simplicity...
but i hate the taste of tea!
sugar, milk, lemon, nothing makes it better for me. sad. oh wait... iced tea. different!
i do like some iced teas!
now i feel like you and your hot chocolate.
hahahaha.

You are hilarious! Ordering a mocha without the coffee is like ordering a cheeseburger without the cheese. Most would call that a hamburger, and yes, a hot chocolate! Your photos here make me think of carnival lights at night. I can almost hear a carousel.

Oh, I wish I'd known about your struggle with thought the fourth! I am also naturally inclined toward cafe culture. Hot chocolate (and incense) is how I kept up with coffee-drinking (and cigarette-smoking) friends in high school and the first part of college. I didn't develop a taste for coffee until...um, 2002, maybe?
What's funny is that it seemed I was always the odd one out--EVERYONE love coffee but me, and I drew more peer pressure about that than about alcohol! Now, it seems half the people I know avoid coffee...if not all caffeine. /sigh/

@nora: a cheeseburger without cheese. humph. totally not the same. hahaha. that is exactly it! the trouble is that cheeseburger/hamburger makes it easy to recognize because of the name. clearly coffee needs a new name, like coffee cocoa. ;)
@tammy: i am laughing with you. i don't like tea, but i drink it with lots of milk and sugar. but i don't mind iced tea. :)

haha... hot chocolate! Before I finished reading, I thought, I must suggest to her hot chocolate. ;o) But you know, I'm a tea person mostly, so I understand. I drink coffee very rarely, and it I do, ironically, it is something like an espresso or mochachino thing. Give me hot chocolate any day! LOVE, love, love these images, Elizabeth! I love the grab bag idea -- so fantastic. I'd vote for one of the images from this post to go in the grab bag -- they're just the kind I'd love to put as a computer background.
As for cafe beverages, someone just told me about lavender steamed milk. I haven't tried it yet, but it sounds like something I'd love. Makes me think of what other herbs might be good with steamed milk. Maybe rosemary? Or thyme?
