{my attempt to capture 52 photos that represent joy - my word for 2010}
it was early evening. the sun was bright and warm, but slightly lower in the sky. i was walking with the pup on the paths behind the library. as we rounded a corner, i caught a glimpse of large blackish wings through the green needles at the top of a very tall pine tree. i walked around the tree to see if i could get a better view. in a nest at the very top, there were two blue herons. they were squawking and bobbing their heads in what looked like a choreographed dance. i thought they were mating but then, one heron walked out on a branch and flew away. in the space, i could see a smaller heron, reaching its neck up and down and grabbing food from the bigger heron's throat. atlas doesn't care about birds, but even he was staring quite transfixed. it was amazing.
pure joy.
Oh, wow, Elizabeth. That will surely be etched forever in your memory. :)

How wonderful! I love those unphotographable moments. In that kind of moment, I really want to take it all in, without missing even the few seconds it would take me to get the camera out of my bag. Thank you for sharing this one with us; your words made it more vivid than any picture could have been.
